As part of planned modernisation of the Royal College of Surgeons, 200 staff and various specialist equipment was to move from a listed building into a new property. A competitive tender from 4 companies resulted in a contract for Premier Workplace Services to fulfil the move.
Premier liaised with the RCS estate team and partners Lendlease to plan a detailed project move plan. A full audit of all items was completed by the team, with Premier supplying crates staff to securely pack all items to be moved.
Premier decommissioned the IT and communications systems and dismantled and packaged furniture items. The furniture removals required specialist care, due to the listed building environment, narrow corridors and original features. Protection was used to prevent damage to the interior, and items were moved using the old lift system. Heavy objects included safes, a press and a full-sized snooker table.
Once in situ in the new building, the Premier team worked together with the moves managers to relocate and unpack the furniture, recommissioning the IT and comms systems as per the detailed plans. The actual move was completed during one day, with Premier organising sustainable clearance of the vacated property as well as cleaning services. All waste items not suitable for remanufacture or reuse were recycled according to the Environment Agency’s WEEE recycling hierarchy.
