From our HQ in Watford the BAR team run the Association for the benefit of our Members and their customers, as well as manage compliance and respond to consumer enquiries. We are supported by elected individuals from amongst the membership, who serve BAR’s Board of Directors, Functional and Special Interest Group Councils and various sub-committees.

Ian Studd

Ian Studd

Director General

Ian has, in excess of 45 years’ experience in the moving industry and has been involved with the BAR for almost 20 of those years. Away from work Ian has his wife, 2 daughters and their respective partners and is a huge fan of the game of rugby, especially England Rugby and Harlequins. Ian is outgoing, enjoys time spent with friends, family, work colleagues alike, and is a confirmed barbecue fan, rain or shine!

Governance & Compliance Manager

Tracy has worked at BAR since April 2009 and provides full secretarial support to the Director General. In addition, Tracy provides full HR support to BAR including contracts, recruitment and managing personal records. Tracy is also responsible for office management, dealing with contracts, equipment maintenance and hotel bookings.

Training & Membership Services Manager

Stephen joined BAR in 2015. Having a background originally in engineering, he moved into logistics then training, working for organisations such as Tesco and JAUPT where he gained valuable skills and experience which has allowed him to develop the training offering to meet the needs BAR’s Members. In his spare time, Stephen enjoys karting, gardening and walking in the magnificent Chiltern countryside with his wife and energetic spaniel.

Membership Services & Marketing Assistant

Scott joined BAR in June 2015, working in his role as a Membership & Marketing Assistant. He provides support to the Commercial Moving Group Council and to all Members and Affiliates of the BAR. Outside of work, Scott enjoys socialising with friends, football and motorsport especially Formula one on a Sunday afternoon.

Training & Membership Services Assistant

Charlotte initially joined the BAR for six months, but eight years later, she’s still here, proving there must be something good about working for the BAR. The staff are fun, the management team is very supportive, and her role as Training and Membership Assistant is busy and often challenging with always something new to learn. She started with Stephen in training, and since the merge of the training and membership departments in 2021, she now works in both areas. Charlotte has enjoyed seeing an increase in training uptake and new Member registrations over the years.

Theresa is new to the Removals Industry and joined the BAR a year ago. As the ‘Training and Membership Services Assistant,’ she processes new Member applications, updates current Member records, takes minutes for National Group Council meetings, books training course delegates, and assists the BAR Team, Members, and clients. It’s a challenging but rewarding role with great team support. Though she still has much to learn, Theresa feels she has achieved a lot in her short time at the BAR and hopes she is making a difference.

Compliance Administrator

Jacqueline’s role involves dealing with all inspection reports and assisting Members and New Applicants in rectifying any non-conformities raised at their inspections. Alongside this, she deals with the everyday administration tasks of QSS.

David Woodhouse

QSS General Manager

David was the third generation of a family removals business based in Newtown, Mid-Wales. He spent his teen summer years working on the vans. David took over the family business in 1987 and ran it successfully until 2002 when he sold out to Fox Moving Group. David stayed with Fox then moved to White & Co in Telford, Matt Purdie and more latterly Broughton Removals in Scotland. In 2018, David took on the role of QSS General Manager.

Financial Controller

Agnes has been the Financial Controller at the BAR since December 2021, managing daily financial operations and providing monthly Management Accounts. She also handles payroll, making her popular around payday. Agnes enjoys automating processes for efficiency and is currently creating a Financial Procedure Manual for the Association. Her knowledge of the BAR and its Members is growing, and she is available by phone to assist with any financial queries related to BAR Membership.

Anita Vekaria

Accounts Assistant

Anita has been employed part-time by the BAR, five days a week, since mid-2019. Working in the Accounts Team, she is kept very busy with day-to-day administration duties such as producing invoices for Membership Services and BAR Training, along with ensuring payments are received. Anita really enjoys working at the BAR Offices in Watford, as her colleagues are a supportive and friendly group who enjoy chatting and having frequent laughs, usually at Stephen’s expense (though he can give as good as he gets!).
