Bishops Move: Phase Two of The University of Surrey Library Relocation
Bishop’s Move has been a long-standing supplier to the University of Surrey. In 2016, we became involved in the project to update the shelving within the existing library. This initial phase in a multiphased project spanning several years, required the sequential packing and relocating of 500 linear metres of material off-site to our local storage facility.
Once completed old shelving was removed and new shelving was installed over the summer break. On completion of the installation of the shelving our teams completed the redelivery and unpacking of the collections.

In 2017 the scope of the move was significantly increased and the move required the clearance of a much larger area. Bishop’s Move provided an on-site Move Manager liasing with the University Librarians to formulate a programme and manage the teams on a daily basis.
Over a period of 2 weeks in June we packed and relocated 2.5km of materials off site. We also simultaneously relocated a further 3.4km of materials on site and also provided a porterage team to relocate furniture to other areas within the library building.
Following a 12-week building programme Bishop’s Move completed the return relocation of the 2.5km of materials from our warehouse whilst also relocating a further 3.4km of materials internally.
The return move also overlapped with the continued installation of the new shelving which required detailed planning and guaranteed delivery of the movement/unpacking of up to 625 linear metres of material per day to avoid any delays to other contractors.
