House Movers: Why use a BAR Member for your move
For more than 100 years the British Association of Removers has been providing membership to suitable removal companies in the UK so that the industry has a voice, and is continually improved and regulated to meet the changing needs of the consumer.
More importantly, people that use our Members for removals or storage do so in the knowledge that they can expect complete transparency in all their dealings with the Member and will receive a high level of service throughout.
Where Members take money in advance of the move – which is standard industry practice – you are protected by BAR’s Advanced Payment Guarantee *. In the rare event that your mover experiences financial difficulties and is unable to carry out your move, that advanced payment will be protected by BAR. For further peace of mind should a dispute arise with the mover there is a defined procedure in place to rectify the situation, through our FREE and independent Dispute Resolution Service.

Why isn’t my local removal company a Member?
BAR membership isn’t for every removal company and isn’t just a pay-as-you-go scheme. To become a BAR Member a removal company has to prove that they can meet the high standards of our existing Members, otherwise the membership itself becomes devalued and the badge would no longer represent the benchmark for quality that it currently does.
There is set criteria to join and a stringent Code of Practice to adhere to and, understandably not all movers can meet those standards. All our Members are audited annually and must meet our Membership criteria and adhere to our Code or else face having their membership terminated. In addition the performance of BAR Members is uniquely monitored by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) to ensure the Member is operating as they should be, in the interests of their customers.
Is my chosen mover a BAR Member?
You can check using the form above or call us on 01923 699 480, or visit the removal company’s website. The BAR logo should be displayed alongside the CTSI (Trading Standards Institute) logo, as a real-time live link.
Choose the right Member for your move
To signify a company’s Membership status, each group will display the following logos.
As well as joining BAR, many of our members seek to obtain further Standards in their chosen field of removals, whether it’s for Domestic, Overseas, Commercial, Storage, Self Storage or ancillary services. There are a number of recognised logos that removal companies promote, especially for overseas moving, though the most common standards our Members seek to obtain in addition to those from BAR are those offered by Quality Service Standards Ltd (QSS), a UKAS-accredited certification body that is owned by BAR but which operates independently of it.
