Let’s get back to basics this week with just the year on year comparisons in the housing market, starting with Sales.

After a slow start to 2022, new property volumes coming to the market throughout the UK is up on last year, but we’re still down on the 2019 and 2020 numbers.

Like with new instructions, the number of sales being agreed started slowly in 2022. But unlike new property coming to the market, has picked up more dramatically to just below the dizzy heights of 2021 and higher than 2019 and 2020.

These numbers are week on week numbers, so overall the volume of sales agreed is down 8% on 2021 but up 7% on 2020.

Then when we look at the rental market, we see that the number of properties becoming available to renters each week is clearly down on the previous years and the number of tenancies being confirmed is also generally down week on week too, but not by as much as To Let volumes.

As with the sales numbers from earlier, these numbers are week on week numbers. So overall the volume of lets being agreed is down 7% on 2021 and 18% on 2020.
