BAR Young movers group news
Hone your video survey skills!
New training course exclusively available to Young Movers
Nothing beats meeting and building rapport with customers face to face, writes YMG
Chairman Ciaran Mullarkey. But moving forward from the current circumstances we
need to be able to offer clients a choice between a home visit and a survey conducted
at a safe distance.
September 2020 Removals & Storage 35
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, video technology primarily helped with surveys that
needed to be arranged in unsociable hours, where distance proved an issue or where
companies needed support to cover demand in peak times. Now, video surveying is
more important than ever before, given that many customers may feel less comfortable
inviting surveyors into their homes.
It’s important to realise that a video survey – whether over WhatsApp or using
bespoke software – is vastly different to an in-person visit, and relationships need
to be built in a different way. The challenges are different too, and range from the
background you choose to the position of the camera. If we learn how to properly
manage all these factors, we give ourselves the best chance of winning that job.
From my experience, in some companies the older generations tend to pass younger
employees the challenge of understanding how to effectively use video surveying
because they believe we have more of a handle on technology. This new Young Movers-specific
course, which has been developed in collaboration with BAR Training Services,
is the perfect opportunity to learn a new skill or perfect one you already had.
Mark your calendars: social event
on 10 October
BAR Young Movers will have the chance to regroup, network and share
experiences and best practice ideas at an informal social event on Saturday
10 October. This is in lieu of this year’s YM Annual Meeting in Belfast, which
has been postponed to October 2021 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Further details on location, social activities and booking for the upcoming
social event will be communicated via email in due course.
