for the ‘new normal’?
Our article in the June 2020 issue of R&S
showed the terrible downward trend in move
volumes caused by Covid-19, writes Mark
Dealtry, Managing Director of Referenceline.
It is a relief to see some growth in June and
July, but the graph helps to put this in
The grey bars show the seasonal variation of the number of reviews
in 2019, and we can clearly see the higher number of reviews that
removers can normally expect in the last eight months of the year.
The red bars for 2020 show that we have already lost the equivalent
of almost three months’ business and that, as of July, volumes are still
one-third below where they need to be to match last year’s activity in
the remaining months.
There are some signs of activity in the housing market, partly
encouraged by the drop in Stamp Duty, but this needs to have a
significant impact (and soon!) if the ‘new normal’ is to look anything
like the ‘old normal’.
