On average, people move home every seven years, and since moving is not a regular lifestyle activity, many people are not necessarily aware of how to choose a professional removal company. There is a plethora of removal companies operating in the UK all claiming to offer a ‘professional’ service but how do you know that your worldly possessions will be in safe hands? There are no guarantees, or are there?

These days it is very easy to start up a removal business without any approved qualifications, moving experience, training, terms and conditions and insurance in place, so when hiring your remover make sure you are protected. Moving can be a very stressful and expensive experience, and if you don’t take the necessary precautions it can quickly turn into a nightmare, and you may end up paying much more than you should for a straightforward move with a professional remover.

The British Association of Removers (BAR) is the only trade association in the removals sector that is dedicated to promoting excellence and protecting the consumer’s interests. We often talk to distressed customers that are attracted by Man and Van companies who offered discounted rates and rogue traders and other non-reliable companies who are on comparison websites.

Many customers have lost money due to the removal company going into liquidation, not showing up on the moving day, or not being contactable after the payment has been made.

Don’t take the risk! If you do not use a BAR remover and you come across any problems, you may not have anybody to turn to. So when planning your move, we strongly recommend that you contact a Member of the British Association of Removers, as all BAR Member companies are reputable, professional and work to high standards; you are also guaranteed the financial protection offered by the OFT approved BAR code of practice and in the unlikely event that something goes wrong, you’ve got someone to turn to.

You would be unwise to travel abroad without booking through an ABTA approved travel agent, similarly don’t move your home without a BAR remover.
