Following the removal of the steel barrier on the M20, Highways England has developed a new system to manage the traffic impact during cross-channel disruption.
The new barrier will help keep Kent’s road network moving, in the event of disruption such as bad weather or industrial action.
The new system is a movable concrete barrier that can be deployed on the M20 within hours. This is a big improvement compared to the previous traffic management system, which needed a month of overnight closures to set up. The new barrier will be ready from December 2020.
