Update from Highways England.
Higways England will be carrying out essential carriageway resurfacing work of the northbound carriageway of the A1.
This work is part of a package of essential maintenance work on the A1, A52 and A46. We will be working along the routes in a phased and co-ordinated manner. Working now will prevent bigger problems in the future, which would require even more work and cause unplanned unnecessary disruption.
When will this work take place?
Higways England plan to start this work on the southbound carriageway on the 10th September and will finish on 15th September (6 day working, no works on Sunday night). To minimise disruption they will work overnight when roads are quieter, generally between 8pm and 6am (6 day working, no works on Sunday night).
Please note that all the planned roadworks are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
How will it affect traffic?
To carry out this work safely, Higways England will need to close the northbound carriageway only between the A52 at Barrowby and the A46 at Newark. Higways England will keep the carriageway open as normal during the daytime.
During the closures, Higways England will put in place fully signed diversion routes through the A52 and A46. They will maintain access to individual properties and other properties that can only be accessed from the A1. Where side roads are closed onto the A1, local traffic will be expected to find an alternate route.
Higways England have said they will do their very best to complete the work as quickly as possible, keeping disturbances and noise to a minimum.
