The Removers Benevolent Association (RBA)
The RBA is our charity, set up specifically to assist the staff and dependents of BAR Member companies in times of adversity when they are in need of financial help and support. It is the only dedicated charity for the removals and storage industry.
The BAR trustees welcome all eligible applications for assistance. The criteria being that the member of staff needs to have been employed continuously for two years by a BAR Member company and that they or their dependent has a legitimate reason for temporary financial assistance.
Apply for a grant
If you know of anyone that may be in need of temporary financial assistance as a result of illness (of themselves or a dependent) or any other legitimate reason, then, as a BAR Member, you may apply for a grant on their behalf by completing a simple RBA application form. Every case is considered on its own merits and will receive prompt and sympathetic attention in the strictest confidence.
The RBA charity relies heavily on donations, fundraising events and investments in order to continue to do its work and provide support for those people in need. Donations are always gratefully received.

Many BAR members fundraise for the RBA by organising events or developing social responsibility programmes within their companies.
There have been some great fundraising initiatives by members over the years. McGimpsey Removals of County Down had the idea of using their customer satisfaction reports as a way of raising funds for the RBA, agreeing to put £1 towards the RBA for every report returned and D.C. Groves and Son ask any new client to nominate a choice of three charities (the RBA being one), and the company donates £2 to that cause.
There’s also a fundraising event for the RBA every year at the BAR Annual Conference. In 2018 a total of £10,174 was raised, much of it (£9,300) thanks to a charity auction with prizes donated by BAR members.
