The Board is delighted to confirm the appointment of Ian Studd as the new BAR Director General with a start date of 1st July 2015. To provide continuity and a handover Stephen Vickers has agreed the Boards request to stay on into July.

Ian is well known to many of you having been at Harrow Green since 1997 and was appointed to their Board of Directors in 2006. Ian served on the CMG Council from 2000 to 2010 , being Chairman from 2007 to 2009 Ian was also on the BAR Board from 2007 to 2014, being the BAR Vice President from May 2010 to May 2012 and BAR President from May 2012 to May 2014. His knowledge of the workings of both the removals sector and the Association are extensive.

In confirming this appointment Gary Wheadon, BAR President said “We are delighted to find someone of Ian’s calibre, with his industry knowledge and skills and also experience in the workings of the Association and a full understanding and commitment to the delivery of our strategy, aims and ambitions, this is an excellent appointment for BAR in ensuring that we continue to develop the Association and its brand and build on the substantial progress made during the past 7 years”

The appointment has been made following a rigorous process over nearly 4 months. The role was advertised both internally and externally, through the newsletter, R&S, the Trade Association Forum and national press. There were 23 high calibre applications and 6 candidates were initially identified by the Board appointed recruitment committee, of which 5 were invited for interview.

Ian was delighted to accept the appointment and said “I am hugely excited to have been offered this opportunity to continue my involvement with The Association, having already enjoyed many years of active engagement with the shaping of today’s strategic aims for the BAR. I am passionate about this industry in which we ply our trade and of course the people employed by it and I hope to be meeting as many of you as I possibly can in the coming months. I very much look forward to continuing the excellent work done following the implementation of the governance review in terms of building the awareness of the brand, and to providing further business support functions and of course commercial opportunities to our members”.

Mark Herrington, BAR Vice President and part of the recruitment committee, takes up the President’s position in May 2016 and was keen that the DG’s appointment was someone he could work with and would ensure that the vision and strategy developed over the past few years could be delivered. Mark said, “The appointment of Ian is an outstanding outcome and will ensure the BAR stays at the forefront of excellence.
