On 22nd June 1498, at an Aberdeen Town Council meeting, the minute books record that the Town Council granted the Shore Porters in Aberdeen the right to carry goods within the burgh of Aberdeen. This is the earliest written record of the establishment of what is today The Shore Porters Society, and some 520 years later, “Established 1498” is proudly displayed by Shore Porters on its vehicles.
