Commercial Drivers Update – TFL

Here is your weekly commercial drivers travel update, which sets out changes and events that could affect your planned operations.

Central and east London
Until Sunday 13 August, the IAAF World Championships will be taking place in Stratford and central London. On Sunday 13 August, events will be taking place on closed roads in central London. There will be delays to road journeys and road and bridge closures will be in place. For more details, please visit tfl.gov.uk/world-athletics

South London
Until March next year, there are various lane closures on A23 Brixton Road. Phase one will require lane restrictions and closures between Camberwell New Road and Vassall Road and will continue until Sunday 3 September. This is for a gas mains replacement scheme. For more details, please click here

Bromley
Until early September, temporary traffic signals will be in place on A21 Bromley Common at the junction of Hayes Lane. This is for utility works.

Tunnel closures

The following tunnels will be closed for maintenance works over the next week:

  • A406 Fore Street Tunnel: From 22:00 Thursday 10 to 05:00 Friday 11 August
  • A12 Green Man Tunnel eastbound: From 22:00 Friday 11 to 05:00 Saturday 12 August
  • A12 George Green Tunnel eastbound: From 22:00 Friday 11 to 05:00 Saturday 12 August
  • A13/A200 Rotherhithe Tunnel: From 22:00 Monday 14 to 05:00 Tuesday 15 August
  • A13 East India Dock Tunnel: From 22:00 Monday 14 to 05:00 Tuesday 15 August
  • Limehouse Link Tunnel: Closed overnight from 22:00 until 05:00 the following day on the nights of Tuesday 15 to Thursday 17 August inclusive
  • A12 Green Man Tunnel: Closed in both directions from 22:00 Friday 18 to 05:00 Saturday 19 August

Islington
From 08:00 Thursday 10 to 20:00 Friday 11 August, there will be a southbound lane one closure on A503 Seven Sisters Road after the junction of Queen’s Drive. There will also be an eastbound lane closure of the A503 between Yong Park and Coleridge Road from 07:00 Saturday 12 to 05:00 Monday 14 August. This is due to utility works.

City of London
From 08:00 Friday 11 to 23:00 Sunday 13 August, A10 Bishopsgate will be reduced to a single lane in each direction at the junction of New Street. This is due to streetworks.

Westminster
From 10:00 Friday 11 to 16:00 Sunday 27 August, lane one of Piccadilly eastbound will be closed between Bolton Street and Stratton Street. This is due to building works.

A4 Edgware Road
From 20:00 Friday 11 to 11:30 Sunday 13 August, there will be a full closure of the southbound Edgware Road flyover between West Hendon Broadway and Staples Corner. This is to due to utility works.

London Bridge
From 01:00 on Saturday 12 until 05:00 on Monday 14 August, Tooley Street will be closed in both directions between A3 Borough High Street and Bermondsey Street. The road will also be closed from 01:00 on Saturday 26 to 05:00 on Tuesday 29 August. This is for Network Rail work. For more details, please click here

A40 High Holborn
From 08:00 Saturday 12 to 17:00 Sunday 13 August, there will be an eastbound lane one closure of High Holborn at the junction of Brownlow Street and a westbound lane two closure at the junction of Procter Street. This is due to utility works.

Central London
From midday until 16:00 on Saturday 12 August, there will be delays to traffic and road closures on Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus, Haymarket, Pall Mall East, Trafalgar Square, and Whitehall. This is for a march.

Ealing
From 09:45 until 14:00 on Sunday 13 August, there will be delays to traffic and road closures in the area, including Uxbridge Road, Culmington Road, Mattock Lane and Chapel Road. This is for a procession.

Islington
Islington High Street will be closed to southbound traffic between Liverpool Road and the A501 City Road from Wednesday 16 August until early November. Liverpool Road will also be closed southbound between Tolpuddle Street and Upper Street. This is due to water main replacement works. For more information, please visit tfl.gov.uk/upper-street-works

West London
Notting Hill Carnival will take place on August Bank Holiday weekend. There will be major closures around Notting Hill, Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park from 02:00 Sunday 27 August until 05:00 Tuesday 29 August. We will provide more details about these road closures in future bulletins.

Staples Corner flyover A406
Staples Corner flyover on the A406 will be closed in both directions for three weekends in September for essential refurbishment works. In addition to these closures, the flyover will be reduced to one lane in both directions for four consecutive nights (22:00-05:00) from Monday 28 August. This is for preparatory and resurfacing works.

The flyover will be fully closed in both directions between the following times:

  • 22:00 Friday 1 to 05:00 Monday 4 September
  • 22:00 Friday 8 to 05:00 Monday 11 September
  • 00:01–23:59 Sunday 17 September.

A127 Southend Arterial Road
The planned overnight closure of the Ardleigh Green Bridge between Gallows Corner and the junction of Ardleigh Green Road/Squirrels Heath Road (22:00 Sunday 13 to 05:00 Monday 14 August) has been cancelled. Works have been completed earlier than planned.
